Notes to self on anti-oppressive academic activity

Notes to Self on Anti-oppressive Academic Activity

  1. Consider what you put in your bio, and how you use it / allow it to be used

  2. Consider how you relate to paywalls

  3. Consider how you create job adverts, run calls for papers & manage recruitment processes

  4. Remember that the MT academy is part of a bigger set of systems

  5. Question your relationship with knowledge: remember certainty is a delusion. Or is it?

  6. Manage your relationship with pedestals

  7. Examine your sense of academic territoriality: be mindful of phrase-coining, acknowledging lineages, flag-planting & land-grabbing

  8. Examine whether you collude with the inherent Tone Policing of the academic system

  9. Name-dropping, tokenism and scatter-gun citation are unscholarly.

  10. Examine the capitalist roots of converting human registers of experience into a publication.

  11. There is more than one tone of voice available.
